  • FIRST AID KIT - Available at stores or make your own
  • PLASTIC SHEETING & DUCT TAPE - Filter Contaminated Air
  • DUST MASK
  • GARBAGE BAGS - Moist towlettes for personal sanitation
  • PLIERS - May be needed to turn off utilities
  • CAN OPENER - Needed if your non-perishable food is canned
  • CELL PHONE - With battery or solar charger

 

Extra Items You May Want To Add:

  • INFANT FORMULA & Diapers
  • PRESCRIOTION Drugs
  • READING GLASSES
  • PET FOOD 
  • CASH
  • FAMILY DOCS - ID, bank records, etc. in waterproof bag
  • FIRST AID BOOK 
  • SLEEPING BAGS & BLANKETS
  • CHANGE OF CLOTHING
  • CHLORINE BLEACH - 16 DROPS per gallon treats water
  • MATCHES - In waterproof bag
  • FEMININE SUPPLIES
  • MESS KITS - or paper plates, cups, utensils, paper towels
  • PAPER & PENCILS
  • GAMES or BOOKS - Especially if you have children

Hopefully, we will never need to use these items.  But, it is always wise to be prepared!

Sherri, while watching the tribute to 9/11, we do need to think of items that would be needed in an emergency.   Flooding, hurricanes, fires, all the emergencies!   Great list Sherri!

I agree. We cannot take anything for granted anymore. I think we should all be prepared and for more than just 3 days. The natural disasters seem to be coming more and more frequently, without notice! Better safe than sorry.

It's a good idea to be prepared for ANYTHING that life sends our way.  Especially food and water and other basics.

But you are right in being prepared. We do need to keep a supply of food and water stashed for emergencies...
